6G on the Horizon—What Tech Leaders Should Expect Next

As the global tech landscape advances, 6G is fast becoming a focal point for innovation and strategic infrastructure planning. With commercial deployment expected around 2030, 6G promises transformative capabilities far beyond 5G—including sub-millisecond latency, hyper-connectivity, and edge-based AI decision-making. According to Simon Trend, Group Managing Director of Wireless Logic, the shift to 6G will driven by demand for immersive applications like autonomous systems, AR/VR, and real-time AI integration.

While AI will be a key enabler, 6G will also require significant evolution in wireless and terrestrial infrastructure, supported by AI-driven network orchestration and intelligent spectrum sharing. Key growth sectors include manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and smart cities, all benefiting from ultra-reliable low-latency communications and massive device density.

However, challenges abound. The rollout will be capital-intensive and complex, with interoperability, modular deployment, and regulatory harmonization emerging as critical priorities. Trend emphasizes that collaboration across governments, CSPs, and industries is essential, particularly through global alliances like the AI-RAN Alliance. Satellite-terrestrial integration—especially via LEO satellites—will be instrumental in closing rural coverage gaps and enabling true global connectivity, particularly across the geographically diverse APAC region.

Countries like China, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore are poised to lead 6G adoption due to their investment readiness, spectrum policies, and digital maturity. Trend foresees early 6G use cases emerging in smart factories, precision agriculture, remote healthcare, and autonomous transportation, with initial deployments likely focused on private or hybrid networks.

Ultimately, 6G’s success hinges on AI-infused infrastructure, multi-sector collaboration, and proactive regulatory support to turn bold visions into reality. For IT decision-makers, preparing now means investing in interoperable systems, data strategy, and cross-functional readiness.
