AI and Data Management Convergence: How APAC Firms Can Rethink Governance for Digital Value

AI and Data Management Convergence is rapidly becoming essential to digital transformation across the Asia-Pacific region. However, many organizations still struggle to modernize their governance practices. In a recent interview with iTNews Asia, Dhiraj Goklani, Splunk’s Area Vice President for South Asia, shared that while data volumes are surging — with 64% of firms now managing over 1 petabyte — data strategy maturity continues to lag behind. This gap creates fragmented infrastructures, poor visibility, and weak decision-making.

Several issues stand out:

  • Siloed systems remain a challenge. Disparate data formats and inconsistent standards across departments block real-time insights.

  • Limited governance is common. Only two-thirds of APAC companies report having formal data strategies in place.

  • Reactive practices persist. Nearly half of organizations still move data manually every month, which increases security and compliance risks.

Importantly, this fragmented landscape impacts AI readiness. Unreliable data reduces the accuracy, safety, and value of AI models. Goklani notes that “AI is only as powerful as the data that fuels it,” underscoring that effective governance must sit at the center of data strategies to unlock the full potential of AI and Data Management Convergence.

Despite these hurdles, there are clear success stories. For example, Singapore Airlines unified its data operations using Splunk. As a result, it achieved faster incident response, stronger security, and improved business resilience. Furthermore, Goklani advises companies to move from reactive compliance to proactive, real-time governance. This shift requires frameworks that connect data, AI, and security holistically.

Many APAC organizations hesitate to invest because they struggle to quantify governance ROI. However, Goklani urges firms to measure progress by operational gains. For instance, benefits include reduced downtime, faster reporting, and more reliable AI-driven insights.

In a digital economy where AI and Data Management Convergence are inseparable, proactive governance is no longer optional. It is essential for sustainable growth and continued competitiveness. By building strong governance foundations, APAC businesses can drive innovation and unlock new value in every part of their operations.
