Microsoft Launches Free AI-Powered Cybersecurity Program

In order to combat escalating digital threats, Microsoft has unveiled a free European Security Program aimed at protecting European governments from AI-driven cyberattacks and state-sponsored threats. The initiative, announced this week, underscores Microsoft’s commitment to strengthening Europe’s digital defenses by enhancing the sharing of threat intelligence. It also offers real-time AI analysis and accelerates response coordination across national borders. 

This program will serve all EU member states, EU accession countries, EFTA members, and other European entities including the UK, Monaco, and the Vatican. With a growing volume of cyber threats from actors in Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, Microsoft is placing AI at the center of its cybersecurity strategy to provide faster, more adaptive protection. 

Key program features include: 

• Real-time AI insights to detect and respond to emerging cyber threats. 

• Access to Microsoft’s Threat Analysis Center (MTAC) for intelligence on foreign influence operations, particularly those exploiting AI tools for disinformation. 

• Collaboration tools to boost cross-border threat response and coordination. 

• Guidance on zero-day vulnerabilities via the Microsoft Security Update Guide, Vulnerability Reporting, and Defender Vulnerability Management. 

Microsoft’s statement emphasized the role of AI as both a threat vector and a protective tool, framing this initiative as a proactive effort to defend Europe’s digital and AI infrastructure. The program aims to support faster threat detection and more unified defense measures, particularly against complex, multi-country campaigns. 

As AI continues to reshape the cybersecurity landscape, the initiative reflects a broader trend of leveraging AI not only for innovation but also as a frontline defense in global cybersecurity strategies.
