OpenAI Jobs Platform to Rival LinkedIn in AI Hiring
OpenAI has announced plans to launch the OpenAI Jobs Platform, an AI-powered hiring service designed to connect businesses with workers, directly challenging LinkedIn. The platform, expected to debut by mid-2026, will leverage artificial intelligence to match company needs with individual skills.
Simo said the platform will also include a dedicated track for small businesses and local governments to access AI-trained talent, expanding opportunities beyond major enterprises. The initiative marks a significant step in OpenAI’s strategy to move beyond ChatGPT into new application areas. CEO Sam Altman has indicated that future projects may also include a browser and a social media platform.
The hiring platform could set up an unusual competitive dynamic: LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft—OpenAI’s largest financial backer—has recently integrated AI features of its own to enhance candidate matching. LinkedIn was also co-founded by Reid Hoffman, an early OpenAI investor.
In addition to hiring tools, OpenAI will expand its OpenAI Academy with new certifications in AI fluency. A pilot program is set to begin in late 2025, with a goal of certifying 10 million Americans by 2030. It developed in partnership with Walmart, one of the world’s largest private employers.
The rollout comes amid growing concerns about AI’s impact on the job market. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has predicted that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs by 2030. Simo acknowledged these risks. He states that while OpenAI cannot prevent disruption, it can help workers adapt by offering training and connecting them to employers seeking AI expertise.
The Jobs Platform is part of OpenAI’s commitment to the White House’s initiative to expand AI literacy, with Altman and other Big Tech leaders set to meet President Donald Trump to discuss national AI policy.
